Pasadena is one of the few places where the family law courthouse is actually in the city you live in. That makes things simpler, but the paperwork is the same, and so are the reasons forms get sent back. This page covers the courthouse itself, when a lawyer is worth it, and local help.
Do You Need a Pasadena Divorce Attorney?
If you are both on the same page about the house, the kids and the money, the court does not require either of you to have an attorney. California divorce is paperwork-heavy rather than courtroom-heavy when it is uncontested, and a registered Legal Document Assistant can prepare and file all of it at a flat fee.
An attorney earns their fee when there is a real dispute, when one spouse has a Caltech or JPL pension, stock or a business that needs valuing, or when you want someone to tell you what to accept. We will say so plainly on the first call.
If money is tight, we offer payment plans, and we can petition the court to see if you qualify for a waiver of the court filing fees.
Where a Pasadena Divorce Is Actually Filed
Every Pasadena zip code, 91101 and 91103 through 91107, is assigned to the Pasadena Courthouse for family law, and so are Altadena, South Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank and the Crescenta Valley. It is the family law courthouse for the whole Northeast District, with two general family law departments and a separate restraining order department.

Testimonials
Clients Love California Divorce Pros
Our clients consistently tell us how much easier the process was than they expected. Here are a few of their stories in their own words..
Common Questions
Is my divorce filed at the Pasadena Courthouse?
Almost certainly. Every Pasadena zip code is assigned there for family law. The court’s local rules also allow filing downtown at Stanley Mosk, and we confirm the branch from your address before filing.
Is there free parking at the Pasadena Courthouse?
Not really. The court lists the pay garage at Marengo and Walnut and metered street parking. The Central Library lot across Walnut Street has been closed during the retrofit.
How long does a Pasadena divorce take?
California requires at least six months from the date your spouse is served (or from filing, with a joint petition). Pasadena is not faster or slower than other districts; rejected forms are what add months.
Are you attorneys?
No. We are registered and bonded Legal Document Assistants. We prepare and file documents at your direction, and we do not give legal advice or represent you in court.
